The History or Story Behind Far Ranch 1984 thru 2005
FAR Ranch started with the arrival of a rambunctious blanket colt from the neighbors. He followed Chris, our 7 yr old son, home one day. Chris had been helping the neighbor for a year, feeding his Appaloosas. This colt knew, at 9 months, more tricks than seemed possible. Max grew up on our 1 acre homestead for 5 years and taught all our grandkids to ride, and the neighbors too. We taught him english and western, how to dance, shake, count and play dead. Then at 7 yrs old, the Aphc helped us find the breeder, no less than Rog Rogers of Smokey Point. It took a year, but Apaches McLeo Bar became a registered Stallion. We ran an ad in the local paper " Max needs a wife" It caught Connie Thomas eye and she brought Max a dark chestnut, Flaxen maned, mare with snowflakes everywhere. Outshinetheothers. Love at first sight. First colt was bay blanket spots, and he got all the attention.ApachesHeart McLeo Bar. Second was a black snocap, Apaches Bar Dancer. Lightning on all 4. Both colts went on to stand. Just the beginning. "Max", Apaches McLeo Bar went on to produce about 70 foals, all of them colored. Many of his sons are standing . Most of them are non fade appys, although Max became a varnish roan by 10 years.
FAR specialized in old foundation lines, which meant old mares from forgotten places that produced miracle foals. These mares were from 24 years to 29 years old when the foals were born. Old stock with good lines.
FAR ranch is the Foundation Appaloosa Ranch now. And we have 21 mares and fillys, and 11 studs and colts. We stand 7 stallions each year. We have a stallion sale every December for folks looking to produce foundation appys.
Max is 20 now and still breeding true. He has 4 foals due in 2005.
All Stalions for Lease or Sale.
FAR Ranch has a mission, To produce and spread the true blanketed palouse appy thru the world. We try to help beginning breeders with affordable stock, and help with informaton on blanket bloodlines and nicks in breeding stock. Fran Farmer grew up across the street from the Ellensburg Rodeo, and spent several years riding range on Mr Fousts Kittitas Herd, numbering at one time 250 mares and foals. These were blanketed appys, and the lessons learned in these years have shaped the FAR Ranch.
